Unexpectedly quits
02/14/10 at 4:57pm

I have been using Seasonality for almost two years now. In the last month or so it has "unexpectedly quit" about ten times. My computer is on most of the time and from time to time I will sit down at the computer and find a popup window telling me the Seasonality has unexpectedly quit; so I don't have any knowledge of when or why it's quitting. I generally relaunch the program and everything is fine, for a while. I have Mac OS X 10.5.8 with all the latest updates, version 1.5.3 of Seasonality running on a Mac Pro. I'm not having this issue with any other program. Any ideas on what may be causing this?

The next time it does this, please create a copy of the crash report.  You can do this by clicking on the Report... button on the crash window.  It will show you a bunch of crash log text.  If you could copy that and either paste it in an email to info@gauchosoft.com or post it here, that would be appreciated.  At the bottom of the report window, it will ask if you want to submit it to Apple...you don't need to do that (Apple doesn't write Seasonality, I do Smiley).  Just close the window.

I'll do that. I looked at the crash report but didn't get anything out of it and figured Apple wouldn't want it so thanks for the offer. Your  personal involvement with Seasonality is impressive.

About a month or so ago I added the Palermo, Italy weather station to Seasonality. (Just picked it from the list.) But as I was looking at it after posting my note I noticed there was no data whatsoever for Palermo. (I thought I saw some data at one time, but maybe not.) The crashes started about the same time. So I deleted Palermo from my list of cities, thinking that it may have been crashing trying to pull data from Palermo. So if it doesn't crash anymore that was probably it. And if it does crash again I'll send you the crash report. Either way I'll let you know.

Again, thanks for the help.

Hmm, thanks for pointing that out.  One of the Palermo locations shows data just fine, and the other one doesn't.  I'm going to have to go through and figure out which stations are no longer reporting data and clean up the locations in Seasonality for the next version.

Keep me updated.

Mike -

I've sent four more crash reports.  I still have no idea what is causing these crashes.

Sorry I dropped the ball on this.

Unfortunately the crash is happening in Seasonality's code (it's happening in one of Apple's frameworks, but that doesn't mean it's Apple's fault).  Try clearing out your preferences file.  Quit Seasonality and then go to your Home folder into the Library/Preferences directory.  Then move the com.gauchosoft.seasonality.plist file to the Desktop and reopen Seasonality.  Seasonality will automatically recreate the preferences, but you will have to readd your locations.

Check to see if this stops the crashes from happening, and please report back here with your results.

Thanks!
